Every year for as long as I can remember, my family has watched Jim Henson's Christmas classic, "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas" on Christmas Eve. It's based on a children's book of the same name by Russell and Lillian Hoban. As we watch, we dance and sing along to the songs as we know the words by heart. It's a sweet "Gift of the Magi" type story about a mom and son who both sacrifice their only possessions to be generous to others. Hidden in the story are many appropriate lessons to the season: generosity in the face of poverty, working together, and kindness, above all.
This Christmas, I wish you those most important and necessary gifts: peace of mind, a quiet heart, the company of loved ones, and health of body. "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas" 2019 Jessica Boehman. Colored pencil, pencil, and gel pen. Not for sale as these characters are copyrighted...this is just for my own portfolio and personal Christmas card use.

Dear friends, a personal post and a call for your help. Last year, I went through the hardest time of my life. I was knocked down completely, emotionally drained, and trying to survive. In that time, I was overwhelmed with the rise of what I came to understand as my "community." My friends and family stepped up with meals, phone calls, visits, physical assistance, and lots and lots of listening ears. In short, they were present. They were "there." With their help and lots of hard work, I'm stronger now than I have been in a while, and I'm trying to put into practice what I've learned and to become a better person, too: to lead with kindness, always. Love one another. That's what they say, right? It's actually the key to, well, just about everything. So, for Giving Tuesday, and for the next week, I am asking for your help. Everything in my shop, https://www.etsy.com/shop/HansMyHedgehog , will be 10% off with code THANKYOU I will donate all PROFIT from these sales to my friend's medical fundraiser. If you do not have the need for more prints or for gifts, please SHARE this post. Let's help out someone in need. I am calling on you with gratitude. Can we, as a community, come together to make someone's life better? To show each other love and keep each other warm in the cold of winter? Thank you, dear friends.
